Join us after the Editors Victoria Annual Branch Meeting (ABM) to hear Rev. Glenn Loughrey speak about ‘Understanding the Uluru Statement from the Heart (The Voice)’. Glenn is a Wiradjuri man, and is an artist, author and Vicar of St Oswald’s Church and has a special interest in indigenous issues. In 2021 he became the first Indigenous canon of St Paul’s Cathedral in Melbourne. He is also their artist-in-residence, designing a series of glass panels depicting the traditional lands on which the cathedral sits.
Later this year Australians will be called upon to vote for recognition of First Nations people in the constitution and for the same peoples to have a direct voice to the federal parliament. It is vital that we listen and appreciate the different perspectives of First Nations people, and understand the question confronting us as Australians.
Rev. Loughrey will explain what The Voice to Parliament means and talk about how editors can learn more about Indigenous Australian heritage to inform and improve their work, along with the positive impact The Voice could have in encouraging and supporting present and future Indigenous Australian editors and writers. Hear his unique viewpoint of the issues informing The Voice debate. There will be a question-and-answer session at the conclusion of the presentation.
The event (Part 2) will follow the Editors Victoria Branch ABM (Part 1) and is free to those who register and attend the ABM. However, we would also like to welcome all IPEd members from around Australia and New Zealand to attend the presentation (Part 2).
Please note: the event will be recorded and made available to registered attendees, then offered for sale to those members who did not register to attend.
Notes:
1.If you have registered for the Editors Victoria Annual Branch Meeting, you do not need to register and for this event. It will immediately follow the ABM.

IPEd acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the unceded lands throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all First Nations peoples today.
